TOWNLANDS

Townlands are territorial divisions in Irish parishes, and vary in size. Some have ancient origins. Ordnance surveys during the mid-nineteenth century resulted in dramatic changes, such as townland amalgamation, the disappearance of names and sub-denominations, and the creation of new townlands.
